Product Description

Earthenware is certainly one of the oldest ceramic utensils that human beings still use today to make food. In Portugal, people use clay cookware all over the country to cook a wide variety of traditional dishes like Rojões and slow cooked stews. The clay baking pan is certainly the most used piece of Portuguese pottery over time. Due to its unique characteristics, it gives an unmistakable flavor to both meat and fish and maintains the heat in food for much longer. If you've never roasted in this utensil, it's time to try it.
These clay roasters have been artisanally handmade and hand painted in Barcelos according to traditional techniques by a family of real artisans.

Features

  • Made in Portugal – This terracotta Baking Pan for Oven is handmade and hand painted in Barcelos by a family of master artisans
  • Healthy Cooking - Clay is a porous material so heat and moisture circulate evenly through the pot, creating tender and juicy dishes with bolden flavors. Because of its natural cooking process, it also retains all the natural vitamins and minerals of the food. Terracotta cookware is also alkaline in nature, hence it interacts with the acidity in the food and neutralizes the pH balance.
  • Heat Retention - Pot heats very evenly and it keeps food warm longer and can even keep liquids boiling after taking off the flame. It’s an essential tool for cooking meat and fish, and can be taken directly to the table to make a dramatic presentation.
  • Painting – Presents a vibrant floral hand painted decoration that will add a touch of rustic vintage farmhouse style to your table (designs may vary)
  • Great Gift from Portugal – The impressive design and old world craftsmanship make this clay roaster the perfect wedding or housewarming gift
  • Food Safe and Lead free – This traditional Portuguese pottery baking tray is food safe and lead free, microwave and dishwasher safe
  • Character – Its handcrafted nature means that each piece is a bit distinct from the last making them unique and prized
  • Measurements: 17” x 4” x 3” inches (L x W x H); Capacity: 4 Quarts / 3.7 Liters

Maintenance and Care

All our traditional Portuguese Terracotta Products are made by hand using artisanal methods. These products may have some slightly discrepancies, but without compromising the integrity of the product. Some products have a bit of porosity due to this fact. The products are dishwasher safe, although hand wash is strongly recommended, and they cannot go to the freezer.

Can be used in ovens, wood burning ovens, on gas stoves, microwave, or grill. Not suitable for induction stoves or glass top stoves. Before the first use, submerge the entire piece in lukewarm water for at least 8 hours. Washing is recommended to be done by hand and cookware stored in a well ventilated location.
