Product Description

“Ladybirdy, fly, fly” is a beautiful piece of glazed earthenware perfectly combining the traditional Portuguese 'faience' techniques from the 19th century and the modern design of our times. This wonderfully sculpted decorative Ladybug is made in the town of Caldas de Rainha in central Portugal by the design studio Laboratório d’Estórias (Laboratory of Stories). Each piece is created around a folk tale or myth. The Ladybird, an icon of childhood memories, is a creation that tells the story of a little girl and a ladybug who always walk from here to there, from there to here. This piece, purely decorative, is ennobled by its legs in natural brass, manually casted in a sand mold. They are the ideal decorative object for home or office and will assimilate well into any style. Sits majestically displayed on the fireplace mantel, bookshelf, or coffee table. Presented in a gift box bearing an exclusive illustration and the poem “Ladybirdy, fly, fly” is a great gift for those that love wildlife, Christmas, birthdays, housewarming, or other occasions.

Ceramics with a story

In this laboratory, even the technique reveals a story — and this one starts at the beginning of the 19th century when “Maria dos Cacos”, using only her hands, became the first of a long tradition of potters from Caldas da Rainha.

Her ancient techniques are a story that is threatened to get lost forever. And it’s in this attempt to preserve this knowledge that Laboratório d’Estórias finds a reason to exist, recovering and valuing the painting techniques of the end of the 19th century and the vast tradition of manual techniques from Caldas da Rainha.

Laboratório d’Estórias

Laboratório d’Estórias came to life through the hands of Rute Rosa and Sergio Vieira. In common, they have the place where they studied design – ESAD, in Caldas da Rainha – but more than that, a desire to tell stories through objects, allying Rute passion for ceramics to the Sérgio talent for the development of original products.
