keeping tradition alive

Tiles are a fixture of culture and design in many parts of Portugal, and you will even find them on famous buildings like the São Bento Railway Station in Porto.

Even though tiles are originally from Egypt, they were first brought to Portugal by the Arabs, in the 13th century. However, it was in the XVI century that King D. Manuel really introduced the azulejos to Portugal. They were imported from Seville after the King’s visit to Spain. It is said that he was so enchanted by these tiles, that he had to bring some to decorate the National Palace of Sintra.

We Are Portugal proudly partnered with one of the most recognized contemporary artists, that keep producing this unique form of art, using the same techniques of the XVI century and bring them to you.
